Take 2: A Resonance Café

Take 2: A Resonance Café is operated by Resonance Center for Women, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The Café provides tasty meals and a positive, educational environment where women recently released from prison can find immediate employment and learn valuable skills in restaurant management, food preparation, customer service and sales to help them secure future employment. Additionally, the women live in housing adjacent to the restaurant with additional resources to help them succeed and keep them away from negative influences. The goal is to help women change for good by giving them the skills and confidence to secure a job and find a fulfilling life outside prison walls.

As patrons of the restaurant, you aren’t just purchasing food, you are purchasing a better future for someone’s mom, wife, daughter, sister or granddaughter. It’s the simplest way you can help us make a difference and break the cycle that women releasing from prison often find themselves: no money, no support, no job … which leads them back to negative influences, negative environments and negative consequences.

Resonance Center for Women

For over 40 years, Resonance has focused on helping women succeed.  Through addiction treatment, prison-to-community reentry programs and second chance-friendly employment and housing, Resonance surrounds women with the support they need to make real life changes.  Resonance helps almost 1,000 at-risk women each year on their journey to be sober, employed and a loving, present mother.

How You Can Help

Consider Hiring Take 2 Café Employees

Take 2 employs clients of Resonance Center for Women who are involved in the criminal justice system. It is a temporary work-to-hire program in which the staff is supported and supervised by a case manager at Resonance. The employment period is approximately six months after which the goal is to help staff members find permanent employment within the community.

If you are interested in hiring one of the Take 2 employees, or would like to know more about the training program, please contact Leon Frost at lfrost@resonancetulsa.org or 918-587-3888.

Become a Mentor

Mentor Resonance program participants in a group setting at the Resonance mansion, 1608 S. Elwood Ave, near 15th and Denver. Approximately 20 mentors/mentees meet regularly to enjoy a family style meal, an informational presentation about community resources, and then mix and mingle or meet one-on-one with women needing a positive role model. For more information or to volunteer, call Hazel at 918-587-3888.

Order Take 2 Box Lunches for your Business Meetings

Eat at Take 2 often, bring your friends AND remember to use Take 2 Café for your catering needs.  A wide range of box lunches and sandwich trays are available and can be delivered to your place of business.

Encourage Second-Chance Friendly Employment Practices in Your Workplace

Give job candidates fair consideration before automatically dismissing them due to their background. Consider banning the “do you have a felony conviction?” box on employment applications, waiting until further in the interview process to discuss the applicant’s unique circumstances and criminal justice system involvement. Charges relating to substance abuse issues often haunt individuals for a lifetime even though many have been in recovery for years.

Consider a Donation

Help support women working hard to create a new life for themselves and their families with a tax deductible donation to Take 2 Café or Resonance Center for Women.
